CREST kit boxes for Engage

Selected members of our Engage Teacher Network will have the opportunity to receive a free CREST kit box, which comes packed with everything an educator needs to deliver inspiring, practical, and relatable science, technology, engineering, and maths (STEM) activities to children.

CREST Awards is the British Science Association's flagship education programme that sparks curiosity, builds confidence, and connects young people with real-world STEM.

What's inside a CREST kit box

All the resources required for you to deliver eight CREST Star or SuperStar challenges with a class of up to 30 pupils:

  • The essential physical equipment required for all activities
  • A full plan for each challenge (teacher Organiser Cards and pupil Activity Cards)
  • CREST Passports to allow children to record their progress
  • CREST Award certificates for 30 pupils.

The kit boxes are designed to be reused again and again, and educators are provided with links to print extra resources and order more certificates for additional pupils.

Who can get a kit box?

The British Science Association wants children and young people from all backgrounds and abilities to access good quality practical STEM activities. The CREST kit boxes are designed to support teachers in schools in challenging circumstances overcome the barriers of time and cost so they have the tools to deliver great quality STEM activities in lessons.

Educators working with pupils from groups underrepresented in STEM that are members of the Engage Teacher Network are eligible for a free kit box. However, demand for these fantastic boxes outstrips our supply, and there is a waiting list.

Impact

In 2022-23, the British Science Association ran a pilot project in Scotland, funded by the NCR Foundation, to design and test a solution to overcome the barriers to teachers delivering practical STEM activities in primary school classes. As a result, the CREST SuperStar Kit Box was born!
