Who can join?
The Engage Teacher Network is for teachers working schools in challenging circumstances.
To join you must work in a school that:
1. Is state-funded, not academically selective, and is in the UK.
Registered Independent Special Schools and Alternative Provision settings that receive local authority funding for pupil places are also eligible.
2. Meets at least one of the following criteria
- A minimum of 30% of students experiencing economic deprivation:
- In England eligible for free school meals (FSM)* or pupil premium.
- In Scotland living in the top 20% most deprived areas according to the Scottish Index of Multiple Deprivation (SIMD quintile 1)
- In Wales and Northern Ireland eligible for FSM*
*Eligibility outside of a universal free school meal policy.
- A minimum of 30% of students are from ethnic minority backgrounds.
Ethnic minority backgrounds include all pupils who don’t self-describe as White British. It includes Irish, except in Northern Ireland.
- The school is based in a remote and rural location.
Remote and rural schools are in postcodes listed as ‘rural’ under the Government’s Rural Urban classification system. Look up your school’s classification here (look for Settlement Type in the Administrative Areas panel).
Engage funding
Apply for our Engage funding to help you run CREST Awards in your school, or apply for funding to celebrate British Science Week and deliver activities and events to learn about research & innovation.
Priority offers
We run exclusive projects and partnership offers for the Engage community throughout the academic year to help teachers inspire young people who are underrepresented in STEM. For instance, our CREST kit boxes.
