Worldwide Washing

Award Level Silver

You can use these projects to enter the Youth Grand Challenges competition. This resource includes three project ideas on the theme of sanitation, hygiene and infectious diseases. This resource has been produced by Practical Action, in partnership with the CREST Awards scheme.

‘What a Waste’ is a research project: Students investigate how much water a toilet uses, find out where our drinking water comes from and what happens to the waste we produce.

‘Washing with Plants’ is a practical project: Students think about why some hygiene products contain plant extracts, investigating which plant materials have antibacterial properties.

‘Top Toilets’ is a communication project: Students think about how good sanitation can improve lives, considering how to communicate why developing simple low tech sanitation solutions benefits the health of the whole community
