CREST Star is mostly used in primary schools, and increasingly used with SEN groups. CREST Star supports students to solve real-life science, technology, engineering and maths challenges through practical investigation and discussion. All the challenges are available to download for free, so you can just select the ones you are interested in and get going!
CREST Star has three levels
- Star (usually 5-7 year olds)
- SuperStar (usually 7-11 year olds)
- MegaStar (usually 8-12 year olds)
Activities are designed to last approximately one hour. You don’t need to be a teacher or have a science background to run them, as each comes with an organiser’s card complete with instructions, safety points and a list of things you’ll need.
Recording and recognising achievement
CREST Star logbooks let your investigators track their progress through the awards. Students can mark off completed activities either with CREST Star stickers, your own stickers or by drawing a picture.
The logbooks are double sided and printer friendly. The templates are available in English and Welsh.
Download these templates to make CREST Star stickers to use with the logbooks. You will need LP35/37R round coloured labels – 35 per sheet / 37mm diameter.
CREST Star for SEN
These CREST Star activities have been adapted for students with special educational needs (SEN). The activity sheets use Widgit symbols to help learners with cognitive learning difficulties, who have difficulty following instructions given purely in text or remembering a series of instructions.
