You can use these projects to enter the Youth Grand Challenges competition. This resource includes three project ideas on the theme of protection and prevention from infectious diseases. This resource has been produced by 4Science, in partnership with the CREST Awards scheme.
‘Fighting Mosquitoes’ is a research project: Students are challenged to think about whether or not all mosquitoes are dangerous, how they can be killed or made harmless, if they have ‘natural enemies’ that could be used to control them, and what the effect of eradicating all mosquitoes could have on the environment.
‘Repelling and Trapping Insects’ is a practical project: Students are challenged to think about what can be used to deter insects from getting close or to lure insects, including mosquitoes, into traps. Students consider what happens to the trapped mosquitos and if it’s possible to make homemade repellents or DIY traps.
‘Helping your Body’s Defence?’ is a communication project: Students are challenged to think about how their body’s natural defences work, how vaccines can help and why vaccinations are needed when travelling to some countries.
